The first double degree agreement between Ecole Nationale Supérieure en Génie des Technologies Industrielles – Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour (ENSGTI – UPPA) and Escola Politecnica – Universiade Sao Paolo (EP-USP) has been signed in 2008. Since 2008, 6 students from ENSGTI-UPPA and 29 students from EP-USP have been involved in this program. 3 of them have pursued a PhD in our laboratory. Among them, one gives lectures in our department as a member of the French Petroleum company TOTAL Energies. Another one has been recently hired as assistant professor and will join the team in September 2021. This double degree agreement was the first one signed in our engineering school and, up to now, the most important as part of our international strategy! We are proud to count EP-USP among our international partners! Beyond student exchanges, research activities are now initiate! We hope that as soon as this pandemic period is over, exchanges will resume under normal conditions and that this agreement will continue to develop and strengthen.

INSA Lyon

Damien Fabregue

The cooperation between the Escola Politécnica of the University of São Paulo and INSA Lyon started in 2002, when we signed a framework agreement enabling academic exchanges. Since then, we have built a trust-based relationship and we signed our first double degree agreement in 2018 with the Materials Science and Engineering department. Also, we are currently in the process of finalizing the agreement with the Civil Engineering and Urban Planning department. We always tried to consider the administrative issues and the needs of all stakeholders, especially in the engineering departments. We are proud of these agreements, which have been praised by our students and teachers. We will continue to strive to keep them active and lasting. We look forward to many more years of cooperation!

It is with great pleasure that we take part in the on-line event “20 years of double degree: internationalization for the students of Escola Politécnica”. The cooperation and friendship with Universidade de Sao Paulo is precious and important since it dates back to the very beginning of internationalization at Politecnico di Torino. Over the last years, the increasing Latin American community has been central to Polito’s continued success in its internationalization process. The remarkable figure of more than 5.000 international students attending Polito’s programs has been reached. “International students from over 120 different countries have enriched both our academic community and the city with the diversity of their cultural backgrounds”. Thanks to strong cultural bonds between Italy and Brazil, Politecnico has enjoyed cooperation with Brazilian universities for years. The successful partnership with Universidade de Sao Paulo started with the first agreement signed in 2001. The Double Degree has proven very appealing and motivating for many students so far. We exchanged around 400 students mostly in the Engineering area, including Mechanical, Civil, Energy and Management Engineering. In the framework of the good relationship between Italy and Brazil, many of the candidates were also awarded with scholarships either financed by Polito or by external institutions like “Ciência sem Fronteiras” The value represented by the Double Degree is very high both in terms of possibilities for the students who complete their academic career and for the overall enhancement of the social environment and development of future collaboration. Double Degree programs help in developing and further strengthen the existing link between universities, future scientists, professors and companies. This event represents an important milestone in our history and strengthens our friendship and collaboration.

Chimie ParisTech

Fethi Bedioui

Chimie ParisTech | PSL is very pleased to participate in this celebration of 20 years of double degrees. The Escola Politécnica of USP is one of our key international partners with long lasting excellent collaborations between both institutions. Focusing on double degree in engineering, we have been hosting more than 30 USP students who had excellent results in Paris. They clearly demonstrate the high quality of training at USP that enables students to be fully integrated in the cohort of French students. When coming back to Brazil, they also became ambassadors of the school thus perpetuating the collaboration. That is why we are convinced that double degree is the best experience possible for students providing them with the best part of both cultures. We hope that it will keep going for another 20 years ! Bravo & Bonne Chance!

The first double degree Politecnico di Milano entertained with Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo was in engineering and dates back to 2003. Given the fruitful experience and reciprocal appreciation, the agreement was later extended to cover Architecture and Design. We consider USP to be a valuable, reliable ad key partner in Brasil, as also witnessed by the almost 170 students that enjoyed our double degree programmes -in the past 5 years only-. These students built competences and skills within an international framework, opened they horizons and minds and will positively contribute to shape tomorrows world. Our two institutions are proud of that. In this “20 years of double degree” celebration we toast with our partner and look at the next 20 even brighter years of collaboration.

Ecole des Ponts ParisTech

Marie-Christine Bert

In 2000, when the Director of Ecole nationale des ponts et chaussées visited Escola Politecnica of the University of Sao Paulo, there was a real connection with professors Adnei Melges de Andrade and Henrique Lindenberg, which led to the signature of a double-degree in civil engineering in 2002. Since then, we have graduated 89 Brazilian and 11 French students in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, urban engineering, transport and environment, all of whom have great careers in the Brazil and internationally. Each year, the students of the USP bring to the Ecole des Ponts their excellent academic level, their open-mindedness and their strong investment in institutional and campus life. This is the mark of a close partnership and great trust between us, of a shared love for structures, culture and a common vision of Franco-Brazilian cooperation that we are helping to build. With 319 members, the international group Ponts Alumni Brasil led by Gustavo Rodovalho Boriolo is one of the most active within Ponts Alumni network. In this year marked by the pandemic, we regret that we cannot cross the Atlantic to share this anniversary with all of you. We give our full support to the Reitoria of the University and the Diretoria of Escola Politecnica, professors, students and their families to get through a period that is still difficult but full of hope.

With warm thanks from three generations of directors of international relations at the Ecole nationale des ponts et chaussées: Marie-Ange Cammarota, Pierre Michaux and Marie-Christine Bert

Grenoble INP

Twenty years ago, we were in 2001, the perfect year for a space odyssey, according to Stanley Kubrick! Sadly, 2001 is also forever linked to the tragic events that took place at the World Trade Center. Other events, less known though, but full of hope also took place that same year, such as the first World Social Forum in Porto Alegre in Brazil and the first double diplomas of the Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo. At Grenoble INP, we timidly started to setup our first double diplomas at the same period, but we had to wait until 2015 for our first double degree agreement with you. It all started by a research collaboration in 2009. Gustavo Rehder, Professor at USP, came to do a post-doc at Grenoble INP. At the same time, Ariana Serrano, now Professor at USP, started her thesis at Grenoble INP. Since then, thanks to both of them, the collaboration is very active and non-stop: CAPES-COFECUB, Brafitec, CNPq, FAPESP, ANR (France) projects… and the double degree agreement between our universities. Today, almost 70 Brazilian and French students have obtained it, proof of a dynamic relationship that matters to all of us. Moreover, 26 Brazilian and French students enrolled in an exchange program between our universities, an important flux but much less than the one for the double degree program. It clearly shows the great interest of our students for the latter. This is for Grenoble INP the most important double degree with a Brazilian university. Obrigado à USP, à Ariana e ao Gustavo por tudo isso! Before concluding, we would like to highlight that all of those exchanges, including the ones to get a double diploma, are greatly supported by the Brafitec projects. This is a fantastic program for students and for our teaching collaborations.

Feliz aniversário aos vossos duplos diplomas e longa vida às nossas colaborações!

The development of double degree programs is one of the keys of ENSTA Paris international strategy. It enables the development of sustainable strategic partnerships and offers great opportunities for students. Therefore, students get to study in two different countries, master two languages and experience two cultures, they are able to develop their academic and professional networks at the global scale and It is a real asset to work later in a field where international exposure is a key. ENSTA Paris is honored of its long-lasting partnership with University of São Paulo, Escola Politécnica. Together, we developed a high-level engineering double degree program and we would like to thank our Brazilian colleagues. Happy anniversary and Best wishes to Escola Politécnica of the University of São Paulo.

Ecole Centrale de Marseille

The Double Degree scheme is of top added values for students who acquire double competencies and cultures and for institutions who develop peer-programs in respect and mutual esteem. Companies, and more largely society, can only benefit of this unique human resource and framework of cooperation. 30 years ago, the T.I.M.E. association has been founded in that spirit. USP joint the association nearly 20 years ago as the first non-European member and is now amongst the most active and committed institutions. CentraleSupélec and the Group of Ecoles Centrale are very proud and honored to count USP amongst its main peer-partner in Double Degree.

CentraleSupélec

Romain Soubeyran

Centrale Paris (now CentraleSupélec) is at the origin of the Double Degree in Engineering. In 1989, together with 14 other European Higher Education Institutions, T.I.M.E. association has been founded with the purpose to develop and spread the model. After preliminary Double Degree exchanges with Centrale, started in 2001, USP was the first non-European institution to join the association in 2003. With its pioneering spirit, USP then led the diffusion of the model within Brasil and develop its DD programs beyond Europe. We are very proud of this long lasting cooperation and to share the same idea of collaborative Higher Education between peers.
