At Expo 2020 Dubai, Politecnico di Milano and Milan Foundation for Expo present “Education for Women’s Empowerment”

an international invitation to tender designed to support the building of an

inclusive society, based on the values of innovation, sustainability and economic growth

“Education for Women’s Empowerment” is an international invitation to tender that will award three Temporary Research Fellowships thanks to Fondazione Milano per Expo. A significant challenge, which aims to contribute to the creation of a dedicated environment for education and training, as well as increasing resources to ensure better education for women, in disciplines such as STEM, engineering, design and architecture.

Fondazione Milano per Expo has always been committed to meeting the challenges that a company must, today more than ever, be able to face, building an environment that is favourable to inclusion and diversity and helping the increasingly

challenging and critical issue of matching the demand for professional profiles with university education.

Politecnico di Milano, the technical-scientific university that prepares engineers, architects and designers, has always focused on quality and innovation in teaching and research, developing a productive relationship with the economic and production sectors through a large experimental area and technology transfer.

The specific objective of the invitation “Education for Women’s Empowerment” is to select, reward and promote international, gender-sensitive candidates adapted to the three identified areas:

  • Big data and artificial intelligence for health and biomedical research
  • Sense/time-based design and neuroscience as a contribution to the social responsibility of therapeutic spaces
  • Agri-food chain and sustainability of innovative products

Inspired by the vision of research and development that the Politecnico has typified and promoted over the last decade, highlighting frontier research, cross-disciplinary proposals and pioneering ideas in emerging sectors that require  nconventional and innovative approaches, the promoters have identified areas of interest that respect the theme of Expo 2020 Dubai and fall within the priority areas of the Foundation’ Statute and Founding Members.

“Education for Women’s Empowerment”  will be presented in the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai on 10 November, under the patronage of the Commissioner General for Italy at Expo, Paolo Glisenti. The invitation is open to all applicants with a Bachelor’s, Doctorate or Master’s degree.

The selected candidates, chosen by the Commissions, will receive a scholarship for one year of research, in Italy, at the Politecnico di Milano. In order not to be excluded, individual or joint applications must be submitted from 9 AM Italian time on 11 November 2021 and no later than 6 PM on 21 January 2022, by filling in the application form available at:

www.polimi.it/e4we-beyondresearch

The winners will be announced on 8 March 2022 at Expo 2020 Dubai.

The invitation, the governing board and the eligibility and evaluation criteria can be found at: http:// EDUCATION FOR WOMEN EMPOWERMENT.it/

For the Politecnico di Milano, research has always been a priority commitment that enables the University to achieve high international standards and to bring together the academic and business worlds. The partnership with the industrial fabric, supported by the Fondazione Politecnico and the consortia in which the Politecnico participates, has once again proved to be a winning and stimulating strategy, and thanks to the long-standing collaboration with the Fondazione Milano per Expo, at Expo 2020 Dubai the two Italian organisations will focus the international spotlight on the access of women’s skills to the world of technical and scientific research and the labour market.
